Charyn Canyon is located on the territory of the Charyn National Park, created with the aim of preserving natural and geological objects. The national park was established on February 23, 2004. The park is home to a large number of rare and endangered species of animals listed in the Red Book.
The depth of the canyon is 200 m. The height of the steep mountains of the canyon reaches 150-300 m. The canyon itself is a natural monument, made up of sedimentary rocks that are up to 12 million years old.
The landscape diversity of the Charyn Canyon determines the diversity of flora and fauna. More than 1,500 species of plants grow here, 17 of which are listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan, 62 species of mammals, 103 species of nesting birds, 25 species of reptiles.
Kolsai lakes are rightfully among the most beautiful natural places in Kazakhstan. Another name for the Kolsai lakes is the blue necklace of the Northern Tien Shan. This name fully reflects reality, because such incredible beauty is not found everywhere. “Kolsai” literally means “lake in a gorge.”
The lakes are located on the territory of the Kegen district of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan and are located 20 km north of the border with Kyrgyzstan, 320 km southeast of Almaty at an altitude of about 1800 m, 2200 m, 2500 m above sea level.
Lake Kaindy is a lake in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan, a popular tourist destination in one of the Kungei Alatau gorges. The main attraction of the lake is the spruce trees rising straight from the water. Lake Kaindy is also located on the territory of the Kolsai Kolderi National Park
The lake, about 400 m long, is located among a coniferous forest at an altitude of 1667 meters above sea level in one of the Kungey Alatau gorges, 320 km southeast of Almaty.
THREE DAYS TOUR
Visit to the Charyn Canyon, lakes Kolsai, Kolsai 2 and Kaindy.
Day 1.
08:00 – 11:20 Transfer Almaty – Charyn (Valley of Castles). Along the way there is a sanitary stop and refueling at a gas station.
11:20 – 13:00 Trekking along the valley of castles to the Charyn River. The one-way trek is 2.5 km and takes on average about an hour one way.
13:00 - 13:30 Walk along the upper part of the Charyn Canyon. Observation deck.
13:45 – 14:15 Lunch in the gazebo with lunch boxes.
14:45 – 16:30 Visit to 4 locations of the Charyn National Park on the right bank of the Charyn river.
16:30 – 18:30 Transfer to the village of Saty.
19:00 - 20:00 Dinner at the guest house in Saty village.
Day 2.
08:00 – 08:30 Breakfast.
08:30 – 09:00 Transfer to Lake Kolsai 1.
09:00 – 17:00 Trekking to Lake Kolsai 2. The distance is approximately 9 km one way and takes approximately 3.5 hours. Lunch boxes are provided at Lake Kolsai 2. The hike is of medium difficulty. You must have trekking shoes with you and, if desired, trekking (Scandinavian) walking poles.
17:00 – 17:30 Transfer to the village of Saty to the guest house.
17:30 – 20:00 Dinner, free time, rest.
Day 3.
08:00 – 08:30 Breakfast at the guest house.
08:30 – 09:00 Transfer to the lower parking lot of Lake Kaindy.
09:00 – 11:30 Trekking to the lake. The distance is approximately 1 km one way and takes 15-25 minutes. Inspection of the lake from three locations. Trekking around the lake takes approximately 1.5 km of easy difficulty.
11:30 – 12:15 Transfer to the village of Saty. Along the way there is a short sightseeing stop at the panorama of the village of Saty and the Chilik River.
13:00 – 14:00 Lunch at the guest house in Saty village.
14:00 – 18:00 Transfer to Almaty. On the way back there is also a sanitary stop and refueling at a gas station.
Arrival in Almaty approximately around 18:00 depending on traffic.
